Character Dining

Character dining has restarted at select restaurants at Disney World, but it will look a little different than usual. Here are the restaurants that will have characters as you dine:

Chef Mickey's at The Contemporary Resort

  • Mickey and friends will make appearances as you dine. The characters will not stop at your table, but they'll do a quick parade around the restaurant.

Cinderella's Royal Table at Magic Kingdom

  • This restaurant now only includes a greeting from Cinderella as you dine. She wont come table to table, but she will make an appearance from a distance in the dining room.

Hollywood and Vine at Hollywood Studios

  • Minnie and friends will make appearances as you dine. They will also have seasonal costumes on for Halloween and Christmas time. The characters will not stop at your table, but they'll do a quick parade around the restaurant.

Garden Grill at Epcot

  • Chip, Dale, and friends will make appearances as you dine. The characters will not stop at your table, but they'll do a quick parade around the restaurant.

Topolino Terrace at Disney's Riviera Resort

  • Mickey and friends will make appearances as you dine. The characters will not stop at your table, but they'll do a quick parade around the restaurant.

What You Need to Know Before You Dine

Before you head to a Disney World restaurant (whether it be at the parks, a resort, or Disney Springs) there are a few things you'll need to know.

  • All guests age 2 and up must wear a face covering when entering and exiting the restaurant. They can be removed for eating and drinking
  • A confirmed dining reservation will be required to dine

A dining reservation at the park does NOT guarantee entry in to the parks. You must still have a valid park ticket, a park reservation, and a dining reservation if you are looking to dine.

You may also find that some restaurants may remain closed, have reduced seating and capacity, and limited menus.

The following dining experiences will be suspended for the time being:

  • Dinner Shows
  • In room delivery
  • Private dining

Dining Reservations

Dining reservations during this time can be booked 60 days ahead of time (this has been adjusted from 180 days).

Dining reservations can be made on the My Disney Experience app and website. When you are at the parks you will be asked to check in to your reservation on the app when you arrive. You can check in 20 minutes before your reservation time. Some restaurants in Disney Springs are also available on the Open Table app as well. If there is availability you can add your name to a waiting list on the app same day if you don't have a reservation.

Disney Dining Plan

Disney is currently not booking any dining plans on Disney reservations. If you had a reservation for 2020 that included the Disney Dining Plan you were refunded for the dining plan portion of the reservation.

Safety Measures

New measures have been implemented across Walt Disney World dining locations to promote health and hygiene, including:

  • Enhanced Cleaning: We’ve increased cleaning in high-traffic areas such as public elevators and escalators, handrails, benches, tables, handles, restrooms and more. Additionally, seating areas, dining areas and pagers will be cleaned between Guests.
  • Reduced-Contact Menus: Menus will be shared in ways to minimize contact. At quick-service restaurants, menus will be displayed on signage. And at table-service restaurants, you can scan a code with your mobile device to access the digital menu.
  • Self-Serve Changes: Beverages and other items that were previously self-serve will instead be served by Cast Members.

In addition to keeping restaurants clean, guests are asked to use technology to minimize contact with others. This includes:

  • Mobile ordering food through the My Disney Experience app
  • Scannable Codes for Restaurant Menus
  • Cashless Payments (this includes Magic Bands, Apple Pay, etc. As well as credit card to gift card payments)

Changes, Cancellations, and Refunds

Disney has acknowledged that these changes are disappointing for many people.  So during this time they have adjusted their cancellation policy:

  • All cancelled pre-paid dining and experience reservations will be automatically refunded.
  • Reservations made at locations impacted by the closure will not be charged a cancellation or no-show fee.
  • If you have an existing Resort package with a Disney dining plan, you will receive a refund.
