Magic Band+ (or Magic Band Plus) is the newest version of Magic Band at Disney World. Your Magic Band can be used at Disney World as your resort room key, park ticket, credit card, Lightning Lane pass, and more.
But this newest version adds LED lights and interactive games you can experience throughout the park.
The Magic Band+ does need to be charged since it includes LED lights. A cord for charging is included with the band. If the battery does die, the light up feature will not work, but the RFID chip in the band will still work and you will still be able to use your band for park entry, your park ticket, room key, and room charges.
Park Ticket
Your Magic Band+ can be used as your park ticket at any of the Disney World parks. Just make sure your tickets and your Magic Band are all linked in My Disney Experience.
Resort Room Key
Magic Bands can be used to unlock your Disney World resort room (or rooms). Your band will work on any room that is linked to you in My Disney Experience.
Resort Room Charges
If you are a Disney World Resort guest, you can use your Magic Band to charge to your room at your resort, Disney Springs, and any Disney Park or Water Park. You can set up a secure pin in the My Disney Experience app to be used when you make purchases. If you don't want someone in your group to be able to make purchases just swing by the front desk of your resort.
Lightning Lane Pass
If you purchase Genie+ or Individual Lightning Lanes, you can use your Magic Band+ as your pass to enter the Lightning Lane line and skip the wait.
Photopass
If you purchase Memory Maker or take any photos with photopass, you can use your Magic Band to scan for your photos. The photographer who snaps your photos will scan your Magic Band+ and you'll find your photos in your My Disney Experience app. If you want ride photos you'll find scanners available under the photos. Simply scan when you see your photo pop up.
Fab 50 Statue Experience
Guests can embark on the “Disney Fab 50 Quest,” a scavenger hunt throughout the four Walt Disney World theme parks using MagicBand+ to help spread pixie dust and interact with the golden character sculptures. With the Play Disney Parks app, guests can dive deeper into the experience to find hints and keep track of sculptures which will unlock digital achievements, including an augmented reality feature.
Nighttime Spectacular
Guests can experience nighttime spectaculars in a new way as they see their bands light up and complement the magic in the skies, including “Harmonious” at EPCOT and “Disney Enchantment” at Magic Kingdom Park. MagicBand+ will also engage as all four theme park icons transform into Beacons of Magic!
Bounty Hunter Experience
Use your Magic Band+ in addition to the Disney Play app in Hollywood Studios for a new Bounty Hunter game. In the “Star Wars: Batuu Bounty Hunters” experience, guests can join the Batuu Bounty Hunters’ Guild inStar Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Using their MagicBand+ to find numerous virtual bounties hidden throughout Black Spire Outpost, guests will follow the band’s light patterns and haptics to complete their mission. Then they will return to the local guild master, who will reward them with galactic credits. Guests can also use the Play Disney Parks mobile app to help them reveal their virtual bounty using the app’s built-in augmented reality thermal viewer.
If you are a resort guest with an upcoming trip, or an annual pass holder, you can purchase Magic Band+ in advance at a discount. You must order your Magic Band in My Disney Experience under Magic Bands and Cards at least 6 days before your resort reservation (or park reservation for annual passholders).
Currently Magic Band+ purchased in advance will run $24.99 - $34.99 plus tax, with solid color bands costing less than bands that feature designs.
If you purchase from shopdisney.com or in person at Disney World you can expect to pay $34.99 - $44.99 plus tax (and shipping if you order online).
No. You absolutely do not need to pay for a Magic Band or Magic Band+ to enjoy Disney World.
You actually have multiple options aside from a Magic Band.
Key to the World Card
Stop by the front desk of your resort or any Guest Services location. You can get a key card (similar to any card you'd get at a hotel). This can be used as your resort room key, park ticket, and lightning lane pass.
MagicMobile
If you have an iPhone you can add your park tickets to your phone's wallet using Magic Mobile. Just head to the My Disney Experience app on your phone. Under "Tickets and Passes" you'll find everyone in your groups tickets. Just click on the button that says "Add to Device" to add to your wallet.
You'll then be able to just hold your phone up to the tap point to enter the park.
Magic Band
If you want a Magic Band for the convenience, but don't want to pay the prices of the Magic Band+, you can still use the older versions of Magic Band.
This means that you can reuse any old Magic Bands from previous trips. You can also still purchase the older versions at shopdisney.com, at the parks, or on My Disney Experience before a trip. The pre-purchase price starts at $9.99.
