With the announcement of Epcot’s Illuminations fireworks show coming to an end, I thought this week would be a great time to fill you in on the changes that are coming to Epcot over the next year and beyond.
Disney announced the other day that the evening show Illuminations: Reflections of Earth will be coming to an end at the end of summer 2019. It will be immediately replaced with a brand new show.
This announcement is not a surprise to many. I love Illuminations, but it’s hardly the huge draw of the show at Magic Kingdom. And with the growing popularity of dessert parties at the parks, this seems like big opportunity for Disney to really step up this show. I’m sad Illuminations is leaving, but I can’t wait to see what it’s being replaced with.
Illuminations isn’t the only big change coming to Epcot. Currently under construction is the Guardians of the Galaxy Rollercoaster. This will be one of the longest rollercoasters in existence, and will be entirely indoors. But if you’re looking to plan your vacation around this ride, you have plenty of time to plan. This ride isn’t scheduled to open until 2021. I’ll certainly be updating you as more information is released.
Lastly, the other big change to Epcot is the addition of a Ratatouille ride in the France Pavilion of the World Showcase. This ride doesn’t come without a little controversy, as many think the World Showcase isn’t the appropriate place for character themed rides. No matter what your thoughts are on that, the trackless 3D ride is scheduled to open late 2019 and looks like it will be a blast.
While rumors of a Mary Poppins themed ride, a resort hotel INSIDE Epcot (omg I hope those two are true), and questions about the future of the Wonders of Life Pavilion swirl, nothing has been confirmed as of yet. But I’ll be keeping my ear to the ground so you’ll know when I know.
