Universal has finally made their big announcement!
They are planning on opening a third theme park in Orlando.
The announcement was made on August 1, 2019.
Universal’s new park, called Epic Universe, will be located near the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando. It will siton 750 acres of land that is about 12 miles from the other parks.
The new park will have its own entertainment area that includes restaurants, hotels and shops. The park will be bringing about 14,000 new jobs to the area.
"Our new park represents the single-largest investment Comcast NBCUniversal has made in its theme park business and in Florida overall,” said Brian L. Roberts, chairman and CEO of Comcast Corporation. “It reflects the tremendous excitement we have for the future of our theme park business and for our entire company’s future in Florida.”
We do not know yet what lands or themes we will be seeing in the new park, though we do have an artist rendering of the new park (see above). Though there are a ton of rumors about what it could be (I'm not even going to begin to speculate, as I'm more of a Disney girl than a Universal girl).
It was said during the announcement that they don’t want to unveil all the plans for the park just yet. But they did promise that will be Epic (hence the name of the park) and it will build on everything that they have built with Universal so far. They added that it will be the most immersive and innovative theme park they have created.
As the new park will be about 12 minutes from the other parks, Universal is working on a new train system from South Florida that would have a stop at the Orange County Convention Center, which is right next to the new park. But none of that is confirmed just yet.
I will update my article on Universal Studios planning as more details are revealed.
